Why annual servicing matters
A CCTV system is one of those installs that quietly works in the background until something goes wrong. Cameras drift out of alignment after a year of weather and wind. Lenses pick up cobwebs, dust and pollen. Hard disks in the recorder approach end of life and start dropping recordings without flagging it. Firmware needs updating to keep the system secure and to add new features that the manufacturer ships free with each release.
An annual service catches all of that before it costs you the footage you actually need. Our Hertfordshire service plan is built around that one principle: visit every year, find the issues before they bite, and keep the system performing at the level you paid for it to perform when it was first installed.
Plan customers also go to the front of the queue if a fault crops up between annual visits, which is the unspoken benefit of being on the subscription rather than calling round on the day something breaks.
What we check on a service visit
Each annual visit covers the same comprehensive checklist regardless of the system size. The list below is what we work through on every Hertfordshire service.
- Camera physical check. Every camera physically inspected, mounting torque verified, brackets re tightened, junction box seals inspected.
- Lens clean and refocus. Lenses cleaned with the correct microfibre and solution. Focus and zoom verified against the original install spec.
- Camera realignment. Each camera angle confirmed against the install brief and re aimed if it has drifted.
- Recorder hard disk health. SMART data pulled from every disk. Replacement quoted on the spot if a drive shows early failure markers.
- Firmware updates. Recorder and camera firmware brought up to the latest stable release. Settings backed up first.
- Recording verification. Test recording pulled from each camera and played back to confirm the chain end to end.
- App and remote access check. Hik Connect or equivalent verified from a phone outside the property.
- Power and UPS. PoE injector or switch checked, UPS battery health tested if fitted.
- Report. A walk through at the end of the visit covering what was checked, what was adjusted and any items to keep an eye on next time.
