Securing an Iconic Landmark: The Blind Beggar

Securing an Iconic Landmark: The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel, London

At CCTV Aware, we had the privilege of carrying out a comprehensive 26-camera installation at The Blind Beggar, one of London’s most iconic and historically significant pubs. Known for its rich history and enduring legacy, this landmark is now equipped with a state-of-the-art CCTV system to ensure safety and security for its patrons.

The Project

Over five days, our team meticulously installed a robust surveillance system designed to cover every critical area of the pub, including:

  • Perimeter security: Protecting the exterior of the property.
  • Beer garden coverage: Enhancing the safety of the outdoor spaces.
  • Internal bar monitoring: Ensuring peace of mind within the pub itself.

As with every project, we adhered to our ‘One installation, one customer’ policy, ensuring no detail was overlooked and delivering results of the highest standard.

A Pub with a Storied Past

The Blind Beggar, situated on Whitechapel Road, has been a part of London’s fabric for centuries. However, it’s perhaps most infamous for its association with the notorious Kray twins.

In 1966, Ronnie Kray fatally shot George Cornell inside the pub, a dramatic act that cemented its place in London’s criminal history. This event, which was part of the Krays’ broader reign over the East End, continues to draw intrigue and curiosity to the pub. Today, while its history remains a talking point, The Blind Beggar thrives as a lively and welcoming establishment.

Meet Henry, The Resident Cat

Adding a touch of charm to our week on-site was Henry, the pub’s vocal and charismatic resident cat. Always ready to supervise, Henry became a team favourite and even made it into some of our project photos!
